Ravish Kumar is a Magsaysay Award-winning journalist and currently working for NDTV and best known for spreading fake news and wrong information in public.
This time Ravish tried to peddle fake news about paddy procurement by the government. Ravish displayed a poster shared by Public Distribution Minister Piyush Goyal on the 14th January episode of his program Prime Time with Ravish Kumar. He pointed at the poster and said Modi Government is not telling the correct data to farmers about the paddy procurement of last which is 2019-2020.
Ravish Kumar said government data of paddy procurement of year 20-21 is 534 lakh metric tonnes 423 lakh Metric Tonnes in the previous year, so the total increment in procurement is 26% was false.
Ravish had alleged that as per data available on the website of the Food and Public Distribution ministry, the total paddy procurement in 2019-20 was 519 LMT, not 423 LMT, therefore the increase in the procurement is not 26% as claimed by the government. After that, he also added that “someone has made a mistake in the government or govt. is deliberately sharing false information among farmers.
But it was Ravish, Who was spreading false information not the government. Ravish Kumar deliberately lied to public by cropping image of tweet of Piyush Goyal. Ravish Kumar caught red-handed and the government sends a letter to NDTV ‘Ethics Committee’.
Ravish Kumar has now apologized for spreading fake news. In his Facebook post, Ravish Kumar said, “the information is incomplete and therefore it is not correct. In this event, a mistake was also committed by me in the episode of 14 January. The analysis of a tweet put out by the Railway Minister turned out to be a mistake”.
But while apologizing for spreading fake news, Ravish Kumar said “Godi Media” which is actually non-biased media and does not spread fakes news like Ravish, should not “excited by such a mistake” and he challenged other journalists to prove him wrong on his facts.
